I came up with what you're looking at to keep folks up to date with what's happening within our fair city and the trade we work and love.

First Science, then Sweat

I was fortunate enough to be accepted in to a couple of classes and spent the last several weeks having Chemistry and Hazardous Materials violently pummeled in to my brain in hopes of opening a new chapter in my career.

I spent a few weeks in Chemistry and managed to do fairly well against all odds and am now in the last quarter of HazMat Technician. Having finished all quizzes and practical testing, we have two days of scenarios and a final exam on Friday that everyone in class seems to feel pretty confident about. Guys from all over are represented here at the PSTF - Greensboro, Moore County, Gastonia, Guilford County and High Point; giving us a well diversified background and a few laughs here and there.

I have an absolute adoration for attaining new knowledge, especially when it has anything to do with the fire service and becoming a better fireman. And while this has all been enjoyable and I have learned more than I thought I could ever retain in the last couple of months, I am ready to get back on 52 and run some calls. Breathing difficulty, chest pain, man down, sick person, whatever - just let me ride and enjoy this time I have. I am fully aware of how lucky I am (we are) to have a spot on the rig!
