Recently, I expressed an interest and applied for our HazMat Team. Depending on who you speak to on the subject of HazMat, this can be a great career move or some sorta slow, painful death sentence.
I just finished up Hazardous Materials for Emergency Responders today and I'm completely brain drained and exhausted. 2 weeks of nothing but formulas, calculations, structures, nerdy jokes that I didn't get and listening to arguments about Star Wars and the best episodes of Big Bang Theory. I was definitely outta my element but with the help of good instruction and smarter folks than myself, I was able to pull off a passing grade!
I've also been taking all the drivers classes (FEO) I can with no end in sight. Pumps, Aerials, Hydrulics, etc. It's the never-ending story.
I'm scheduled to attend Tech school in a few weeks and I'm genuinely looking forward to learning even more. Unlike my High School years, I now crave knowledge and can't get enough. I'm ate up with learning more and more in an effort to be a solid fireman and a better father and husband. Hopefully all of this effort leads to a position on the HM Team. If not, I'll at least be a much better prepared hose monkey! Fingers crossed.
I digress, my point is, my posts have been scarce and I'm gonna make a better effort of keeping this thing fresh for the one or two of you out there who care!
I'll be working a 48 this weekend so there's bound to be something that comes up on the West-side
