Good News and Bad News

Our city manager, Rashad Young, submitted the proposed budget for next fiscal year. The cuts, in reference to GFD, are below. On the bright side, taking a ladder company out of service was not in this proposed budget. This is very good news for the City of Greensboro!

The Fire Department, like every other city department, is taking a serious hit to it's budget. Around 20% of the departments budget has been slashed over the past several fiscal years including this one.

City Manager’s Recommended Budget Reductions Includes:

$75,000                 Revenue – Implement Fire Lane Enforcement Franchise Fee
$25,000                 Revenue – Implement Increase In Fire Code Re-Inspection Fees
$75,000                 Reduction – Shift Operations Overtime for Minimum Staffing
$175,000               Service Delivery ReductionContracted Emergency Response Staffing
$50,000                 Reduction – Uniform Equipment (non-safety personal protective equipment)
$45,000                 Reduction – Maintenance and Repair to Emergency Equipment
$95,000                 Elimination – Funding for One Deputy Fire Marshal Position

$540,000              GFD Total Cuts
